GREENVILLE, N.C. -It took them more than a year and almost 500 hours.
Saturday a local Girl Scout Troop opened the path to a new classroom at Elmhurst Elementary school. Girl Scout Troop 20122 built the classroom with the help of teachers and the Forest Hills Neighborhood Association. The girls built the benches, the paths and even came up with science lesson plans for the students to use. The girls and the teachers at the school say the outdoor learning space will only enhance the students' education. "I know a lot of kids in Greenville don't get that nature component to their childhood and I hope that this will contribute to that," said Carolina Doherty, Troop 3011. "When I'm teaching out here they are so engaged and so involved. They get so excited and it makes learning a lot more fun," said teacher, Gary Lindsay. |
